"I keep calling the kids who signed up our 'entrepreneur philanthropists,'" Nature Discovery Center board member Kristin Berry said after the Aug. 22 fundraiser, when 18 teams from Bellaire Youth Entrepreneurs ran lemonade stands around the city. They raised $13,175 in one day. That pushed the center's Enchanted Woods campaign from 84% to 85% of its $2.5 million goal.
Bellaire's calendar from now until mid-December follows the same pattern as that lemonade day. The city lends the lawns and books a few free concerts. Nonprofits, booster groups and volunteers run most of the rest, and the money from a pumpkin, a campsite or a ticket stays with a local group. Most of the season happens at two addresses, 7112 Newcastle St. and 7008 S Rice Ave. Here is the order it runs in, and where the money goes.
Oct. 7: The Groundbreaking the Lemonade Helped Pay For
The Nature Discovery Center is holding a public groundbreaking for the Enchanted Woods Nature Play Space and Cottage Classroom on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Russ Pitman Park, 7112 Newcastle St. You need to RSVP in advance. The site is at the northwest corner of Evergreen Street and Newcastle Drive.
The center says the project will transform its current nature play area. Site plans dated Aug. 10 divide the new space into three themed zones.
- Imagination Meadow
- Discovery Creek
- Nature Workshop
At the center is the Cottage Classroom, an air-conditioned room with 24 seats, 18 feet of counter space, a cleanup sink, a wall-mounted TV and its own restroom. An elevated Observation Deck wraps around it, with play binoculars for wildlife viewing, a two-faucet trough sink, a teaching area, a bottle-filling station and seating for parents. Earlier coverage said the old plastic slides and swings would give way to hills, tunnels, water, sand and loose parts. Some of the equipment being replaced hasn't been updated since the early 2000s.
TBG Partners and StudioRed Architects are handling design, and Forney Construction will build it. The center credits the original idea to former Executive Director Henry Owen. Its online tracker now shows $2,218,204 raised, or 88% of the goal.
The opening date is still open. In May 2025, Community Impact reported that the project was expected to finish before summer camps started in 2026. The center now says only that the project is "moving toward construction later this fall." It has not announced how long construction will take or when the space will open. That makes the remaining 12% of the campaign the fall's biggest piece of unfinished local fundraising, and the next event on this calendar is built to help close it.
Oct. 17–18: The 34th Pumpkin Patch Brings In Money for the Same Park
Ten days after the groundbreaking, the same park hosts the Nature Discovery Center's 34th Annual Pumpkin Patch Fall Festival, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17–18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Entry is free. The center makes its money on purchases instead, and says that "every wristband, bite, ticket, and pumpkin" helps pay for nature education programs, scholarships and park stewardship.
The lineup has carnival games like Can Crunch, Pumpkin Bowling and Spiderweb Toss, plus axe throwing, a moonwalk, rope bridges, face painting, obstacle courses, local food trucks and artisan vendors. Sunday adds a dog costume parade, and there's also a virtual costume contest. New this year are unlimited-play activity wristbands. You need one for carnival games and some other activities, and you can buy them online ahead of time or at the ticket tents. The center hasn't posted 2026 wristband prices yet.
Two practical notes from the organizer. You can pick up pumpkins curbside by driving to a designated zone when you leave. Streets right next to the park may be closed to cars for pedestrian safety, so plan on street parking a little farther out.
The Great Lawn: Free City Concerts and Ticketed Nonprofit Nights
The second address, 7008 S Rice Ave., is home to Bellaire Town Square, the Civic Center and the Great Lawn. The city and local nonprofits split this calendar. The city's Party at the Pavilion concerts are free. The two ticketed nights belong to community groups raising their own money.
Oct. 23, Mango Punch! The city's Party at the Pavilion with Mango Punch! was originally scheduled for Oct. 2 and has been moved to Friday, Oct. 23, 7 to 9 p.m., on the Great Lawn. It's free. If you saved the original date, the city's listing for Oct. 2 is marked rescheduled.
Oct. 24, Bellaire Diwali. The next night, Bellaire Diwali 2026 runs 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the same address. It's presented by Bellaire Desi Group, a 501(c)(3). The flyer promises entertainment, Indian food, and Raas Garba and Dandiya led by Rita Singh. Adult tickets are $40 if bought on or before Oct. 5 and $45 after that. Tickets for children ages 5 to 12 are $20. The city calendar lists the venue as the Civic Center and the flyer calls it Bellaire-Zindler Park. Both give the address as 7008 S Rice.
Nov. 6, Larry Grass Band. Another free Party at the Pavilion night, 7 to 9 p.m. on the Great Lawn.
Nov. 7–8, Tents in Town. The next day, PATRONS For Parks turns the lawn into a campground for its 17th annual Tents in Town, billed as Bellaire's "Ultimate Urban Campout." Families camp overnight from 1 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, with bounce houses among the activities. A family of four pays $200 plus a $5 ticket fee, and each extra camper is $40. The $600 VIP family package includes an extra-large tent with two plush beds, linens and blankets.
Dec. 11, Thunderpants. The last Party at the Pavilion of the year, 7 to 9 p.m.
Oct. 10: The Library Turns 75, and So Does Its Support Network
The Bellaire City Library at 5111 Jessamine is celebrating its 75th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 10, with events all day. Here's the city's schedule:
- Fall Book Sale, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Storytime for all ages, 10:30 a.m.
- Kids' activities for grades K–5, 1 to 3 p.m.
- Open House, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The city has also launched a 75th Anniversary Reading Challenge.
The book sale comes from the same volunteer tradition as the rest of this calendar. The Friends of the Bellaire Library list their Oct. 10 sale at the Bellaire Fire Station, so check that location before heading to Jessamine with a tote bag. The Friends group says it was founded by the Bellaire Women's Civic Club and describes "Our Mission Since 1951."
The building you'll walk into has changed over the past year, too. By mid-August, staff had RFID-tagged nearly 100,000 books, installed a security gate and opened a self-checkout kiosk, with a second kiosk on the way.
The Rest of the Season, Dated
Three more events round out the fall away from the two main addresses.
- Oct. 31: The Bellaire Open Air Halloween Market at Evelyn's Park, noon to 4 p.m.
- Nov. 14: The Bellaire Fall Arts & Crafts Festival at Paseo Park, 5000 Bellaire Blvd., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Dec. 3: Holiday in the Park, which is on the city calendar. Hours and venue details haven't been posted yet.
Here's the whole season in one table to keep near the fridge.

Two of these Saturdays line up neatly. Oct. 10 puts the library open house a short drive from wherever the day's book sale ends. Oct. 24 follows the Mango Punch! concert by one night at the same address. The Nature Discovery Center comes back to Russ Pitman Park whenever construction starts on Enchanted Woods, and the funding tracker on its site shows how much of the $2.5 million is left.
Kasteena Parikh builds every listing around the story of its neighborhood, and in Bellaire this fall that story includes a groundbreaking at Russ Pitman Park and a full Great Lawn calendar. If you're thinking about a spring sale and want a plan that covers timing, staging and how to present the neighborhood, Request a Pre‑List Consultation.
